Mike Porteous: Bio

Mike Porteous is the author of Beyond Belief: the art of confidence-centred coaching, published by Practical Inspiration Publishing.

Mike set up and runs an endurance sports coaching business, ZigZag Alive, supporting swimmers, cyclists, runners and triathletes of all abilities and ambitions. He is also the founder of confidence-centred coaching, a resource for coaches across all sports that captures, shares and extends great coaching practice centred on confidence and self- belief. He designs and runs interactive workshops and webinars for coaches across all sports, exploring what it means to put confidence at the centre of all we do. And he mentors British Triathlon coaches.

His long and varied career has zigzagged between academia (a DPhil that took him to Brazil), government (leading high profile change programmes) and now coaching and coach development. He has been Head Coach at Brighton Tri Club (Triathlon England Club of the Year 2015), leading a team of 25 coaches and Swim Coach in Residence for the Outdoor Swimming Society. And he teaches disabled children to swim through the charity Level Water, is a co-host and host mentor for Mental Health Swims and an advocate Butterfly for the True Athlete Project.

He lives three minutes by flip flop from a beach and swims and dips through the year.
